E.P.P.O. drill at 6th High School at Chalandri, Athens

On May 3, 2017, at 11:30, E.P.P.O. and The Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA) performed an evacuation drill using the EPreS System. The drill was held at High School No. 6 in the Chalandri district of Athens in which 150 students are enrolled.
The school building in which the drill took place consists of 2 floors. All floors were connected by two different staircases and there were two evacuation exits; at the ground floor. A total of 5 checkpoints nodes were placed in the building; at the exits and staircases (1st and 2nd floor). Before the drill performance the E.P.P.O. team distributed the tags to the students and briefly informed them about the start signal of the drill and the evacuation routes according to the school’s emergency plan.
UoA team installed sensors (RFID readers) and antennas and put the data (blueprints, evacuation paths) in the EPreS software.
The observation of speed and flow density of students participated in the drill revealed a total evacuation time of 4 min, in which participants passed the 5 checkpoints and all reached the exits. After the end of the drill an evaluation of the procedure took place with participation of all the school teachers and the school principal.
